Stephen Berge Howard, 78, of Orange Park, FL, died August 24, 2021 at his residence.
Howard was born on October 5, 1942 in Kokomo, Indiana to the late Raymond and Margaret Sands Howard. Mr. Howard graduated from Bainbridge High School in Bainbridge, GA and Southern Polytechnical State University in Marietta, GA with a degree in Civil Engineering. He also attended Georgia Tech in Atlanta, GA. Mr. Howard was subsequently an estimator and Vice-President of a heavy and highway contractor in Albany, GA for 20 years. He retired from Florida Rock Industries in 2007, after 24 years of service, where he served as Vice-President of the Crushed Stone Division and Director of Corporate Purchasing. After retirement, he served 9 years on the Orange Park Town Council as Mayor, Vice-Mayor, and Councilman.
Howard was a Certified Purchasing Manager, Certified Equipment Manager and was a former member of the Southern Polytechnical State University Alumni Association Board of Directors along with the Georgia Highway Contractor’s Association Board of Directors. He was also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, International Society of Explosive Engineers, Society of Mining Engineers and the Association of Equipment Manager Professionals.
Howard was a member of the Orange Park United Methodist Church, where he served on the Board of Trustees and was a former delegate to the Florida Annual Conference.
Surviving are his children, daughter Tracy Martin (Ted) of Dawsonville, GA; son, Stephen Howard, II (Heather) of Saint Johns, FL; daughter Leigh H. Huey (Jonny) of Fleming Island, FL; grandchildren Jason Croom, Holly Croom, Delaney Howard, Whitney Howard, Courtney Howard, Addison Faulk, and Collin Faulk.
No services or calling are planned according to Mr. Howard’s wishes, and he asks family and friends to remember him as a man that loved his family, his grandchildren and a good time. He was an organ donor and his remains were cremated.
Private burial services will be held at the family plot at Roachdale Cemetery, Roachdale, Indiana at a later date.
