Susan Cox Griffin (Susie) passed away after a short illness at Orange Park Hospital, Jacksonville FL on April 17th.
Susie was born on February 3, 1954 at NAS Jax, Florida, daughter to Claudious and Lillie Cox of Ortega Farms, Jacksonville, FL. She grew up on the Westside but much of her youth was spent in Middleburg, Fl with family and friends. Susie graduated from Nathan Bedford Forest High School, Jacksonville FL in 1972. Soon after high school she married John Bishop Sr. and they resided in Wesconett, Florida. Susie and John had one child John Bishop Jr. Later in life Susie remarried Miles Griffin and they moved to Doctor’s Inlet, FL. Susie and Miles had many fond memories and years together and were always giggling and joking around.
Susie was preceded in death by her husband Miles in 2017 and first husband John Bishop Sr. in 2021.
Susie is survived by her son John H. Bishop Jr. and daughter in law Tina, her sister Nancy Cox and brother-in-law Paul, her brother Joe Cox and sister-in-law Cheryl, her Nieces Lisa Barnett, Julie Klepfer, Karen Tanner, her nephews Caleb Cox and Joe Cox, as well as many great nieces, great nephews and other extended family.
Susie was happiest when she was with her friends at Church and Bible School. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends at low country boils or having fish and scallops at Aunt Kate’s or Whiteys Fish Camp. We have many fond memories with Susie hunting, fishing, camping, and gardening. She was well known for her green thumb and often had a crop of fresh produce to share with her neighbors and friends.
Susie always had a kind word for everyone and was patient and loving. She was a faithful servant to the Lord and she will be missed by all. In her memory you are welcome to make a donation in her name to the Doctor’s Inlet Church of God in lieu of flowers.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at Doctor’s Inlet Church of God with Pastor Mitchell Snowden officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until service time. Burial will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park.
