Teresita Macatbag Dodd

July 24, 1954 — May 10, 2024

In memory of Teresita Macatbag Dodd, who left this life to be with our Lord on May 10, 2024.  Teresita was born in 1954 in Paoay, Ilocos Norte, the Philippines.  She was the last of seven children.  As the youngest, she was doted on by her family as she grew into a young woman, well known in her community for her beauty.

Ater graduating from high school, she left her home in a rural province to work at a cousin’s souvenir shop located near the Subic Bay Navy Base. There, she met a charming American sailor named Richard Dodd.  After a short period of dating and a long-distance correspondence, they were married.  Shortly after marriage and the birth of their first daughter, she left the Philippines as a navy wife and never returned.  After the birth of their second daughter, Teresita and her family grew accustomed to military life, traveling all over the world, taking comfort in each other.

Teresita was a devoted and strict mother who instilled in her daughters a high expectation for academic excellence.  It paid off after both girls eventually graduated from university on full scholarships.  That was her proudest accomplishment.

As soon as her daughters were old enough, Teresita began to take on part-time jobs, culminating with a 20-year career with the Navy Exchange.  Shortly before retiring, she became a grandmother (Mema) and found new joy in doting over the next generation of her family, helping to raise them and encourage them to achieve as well.

She passed away, succumbing to complications from several diabetes related strokes and a brain tumor.  She is survived by her eldest daughter, Maria (Glenn) Haney and two grandchildren, Richard and Lydia Haney. She is also survived by her youngest daughter, Kathrine Dodd and her former husband, Richard Dodd.

She is finally reunited with her late mother, father and siblings who she left so many years ago.
