Thelma Marie May Sweat, 80, of Orange Park, Florida, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness at the Haven Hospice Care in Orange Park, Florida, on Monday, December 11, 2017. She was born to Onnie Mounts May Dales and Lonnie May on January 20, 1937, in War Eagle, West Virginia. Moving to Florida from Grundy, Virginia in 1952, she resided in Clay County most of her life. Preceding her in death were her husband of 55 years, Carl L. Sweat; mother, Onnie Mounts May Dales; father, Lonnie May; brothers, Arnold “Bud” May (Dorothy), Leonard Harold May (Gay), Jimmy Dales (Laura); sisters, Irene Farris (Tommy) and June Sweat (Estes). Thelma is survived by her loving and devoted children, son, Kenneth C. Sweat (Lisa), granddaughters Madison Ellis and Mallory Sweat; daughter, Ann Mitchell (Fuzzy), grandson, Mychael Mitchell; granddaughter, Chrystal M. Chipoletti (Derek), great grandsons, Austin and Hunter Chipoletti, and great granddaughter, Harper Chipoletti. She is also survived by brothers Johnny Dales (Rosemary), Green Cove Springs, Florida, and Howard Dales (Joanne), Greenville, South Carolina. She will be greatly missed by numerous nieces and nephews. Thelma was an amazing wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and friend. Family meant everything to her and she enjoyed cooking and spending time with those she loved. Her favorite hobbies were gardening, decorating, shopping and eating out with her family. Funeral Services will be held in the Broadus-Raines Chapel on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at 11:00 am with Reverend Charlie Hunt officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Shiloh Baptist Church, Green Cove Springs, Florida, thereafter. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name to Haven Hospice, Orange Park, Florida would be appreciated.
