Timothy James Broderick, AWC (AW) (Ret.)

February 4, 1956 — March 3, 2023

Timothy “Tim” J. Broderick, AWC (AW) (Ret.), 67, died suddenly and peacefully in Middleburg, FL on March 3, 2023, surrounded by his family. Tim was born on February 4, 1956, in New York to Thomas and Corinne Broderick. He grew up in Greenpoint, Brooklyn; he was an amazing high school basketball player and was selected to the all-city first team. He graduated from Bishop Loughlin M.H.S. in 1974. He married his high school sweetheart, Kathryn Gateson in 1975 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy the same year. During his 20-year Naval Aviation career, he attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer, and was designated as Naval Aircrewman, Search and Rescue Swimmer, and Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist. His tours of duty included VP-56 at NAS Jacksonville, COMPATWING TWO Barbers Point, HI. Upon his return to Jacksonville, he was a member of HS-7, FASO, HS-3 and finally HS-1. He made cruises on the USS John F. Kennedy, USS Saratoga (Desert Storm) and USS Theodore Roosevelt (Desert Shield). His personal awards included Air Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (2 awards), Navy Achievement Medal (3 awards) and numerous unit and campaign awards. Starting at a young age, Tim had the ability to make people laugh. His incredible sense of humor could lift anyone’s spirits and change the room no matter the circumstance. He wore his heart on his sleeve, was never afraid to admit his faults and share his mistakes, and always found a way to make people smile. He was a true warrior and servant of God with a loving heart, an amazing dad, teacher, supporter, cheerleader, and fan. He is survived by his wife and best friend of over 50 years, Kathy; son, Timothy Jr. (Erin); daughter, Jessica Blackburn (Terry); five of his grandchildren, Madisyn, Kellen, Evan, Alex, and Emily; brother, Thomas (Shelly); sister Karen Giannini (Jack); and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Allie, who died 13 years ago at the age of one. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Thursday, March 9, 2023, in the Broadus-Raines Chapel. Please be considerate of the family and not arrive early. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Friday, March 10, 2023, with Pastors Christian Pope and Timothy Larson officiating at Springs Chapel.
