Thomas "Tom" Muyres, age 84, of Fleming Island, FL passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2023. Tom was born to August and Marcella Muyres on October 15, 1939 in Parkers Prairie, Minnesota and graduated from Sacred Heart High School.
Tom married his beautiful wife, Teddy Muyres on March 26, 1960 in Austin, Minnesota. They raised their four children in Austin and Rosemont, Minnesota. In the early days Tom worked at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. Tom was a talented and successful Sales Representative for Stride Rite and Buster Brown Shoes as he traveled weekly to make his sales calls. In his later years he worked for his son in the home health industry.
Tom loved any activities involving the outdoors. He loved to camp and travel with our Mom enjoying the beautiful St. Croix River in his canoe. His passion for motorcycles took him on many memorable trips both in the state and across the country. He enjoyed riding with his friends and both sons. In his later years, he traded his love of motorcycles for a new found form of exercise on his bicycle. For the last 25 years you could find him on his bike putting in at least 10 miles a day in and through the neighborhoods of Fleming Island. After his daily bike ride, he would go to his favorite spot in the back yard and would start his ritual of building a fire to enjoy his morning coffee. He found great joy being warmed by the fire as he surveyed his collection of treasures, with the centerpiece being his famous “Bottle Tree.”
Tom was an excellent Grandpa and loved his grandchildren as babies and well into their adult lives. As infants, he loved spending time with them playing and occasionally took them on bike rides to explore the neighborhood. As they grew, he started a Whittlers Club and taught the boys how to patiently work with wood. His passion for bikes spilled over to several grandchildren as he taught them how to tinker and repair their own bikes. His influence among his grandchildren is still felt today.
Tom is survived by his four children Bill Muyres (Angela), David Muyres (Debbie), Julie Hemmer (Brad), and Mary Jo Davis (Kevin); his 13 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.
