Vernette Frances Fulop, 90, died peacefully on January 23 at the Penney Retirement Community Farms in Penney Farms, Florida where she lived since moving there with her husband, Robert Earnest Fulop, in 2001. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Vernette graduated from Wheaton College and West Suburban Hospital School of Nursing with a BSN. She served as a nurse at West Suburban Hospital, taught nursing at the Norwegian American Hospital in Chicago, and was a missionary with her husband in Yokohama, Japan from 1958 to 1973 after which they moved to Kansas City, Kansas where she continued to work as a nurse, and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and son, James, and is survived by her daughter, Judy, son, Timothy (and wife Jacklyn), and four grandchildren: Evan (and wife Erika), Grace, Emma, and Lily.
Vernette loved being with her family and relatives as well as friends. In addition, she enjoyed her hobbies which included writing, playing the piano and organ, and painting including Paintex, a Japanese art form utilizing silk in paint. She enjoyed traveling throughout the world with her husband and family, including camping throughout Europe, and spending time at Oxford conducting research with her husband. At the Penney Retirement Center, she was involved in many activities including participation in the writers’ group, volunteering at the Nursing Pavilion, finishing her husband’s memoir and compiling a community recipe book. The memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 4, 2019 at Penney Farms Memorial Church. Internment is at the Penney Farms Retirement Cemetery on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 3:00pm. Memorials gifts may be sent to the American Baptist International Ministries, P.O.
