Victor R. Johnson, 92, of Orange Park, FL passed away on Sunday, July 29, 2018 surrounded by family.
Victor grew up in Wilmington, NC. He enlisted in the Navy during WWII and proudly served in the Pacific. When discharged in 1946, he returned to Wilmington and was employed by Atlantic Coastline Railroad, which took him to Jacksonville, FL, Richmond, VA and back to Jacksonville. He retired in 1985 from CSX Railroad as Assistant Treasurer.
Victor was an artist, a writer and a story teller. He enjoyed traveling and entertaining friends and family. He volunteered for his neighborhood association, Adult Literacy, the Cancer Society and the Soul Food Mission at his church. He was a longtime member of Orange Park United Methodist Church.
Victor is survived by Frances Johnson, his wife of 66 years; son, David Johnson; daughter, Diane Gunnels (Richard); granddaughter, Erica Singh; great-grandchildren, Korina, Gia and Benjamin; sister-in-law, Jeanette King and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held at Orange Park United Methodist Church on August 11, 2018 at 11:00am. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall. Should friends desire, contributions may be made in Victor’s name to Clay County Council on Aging or Haven Hospice, Orange Park, FL.
