Virginia “Ginny” Dinkins, Age 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at Haven Hospice in Orange Park, Florida surrounded by the love and comfort of family and friends. Ginny was born on May 29, 1931 to Amy and Thomas Burnett in Port St. Joe, Florida. The family relocated to Ocala, Florida where she spent her early years and there met and married her husband of 49 years, William A. “Dink” Dinkins. Ginny and Dink relocated to Gainesville, Florida with their son and daughter in 1962 and were blessed with another son in 1968. Their children include, Stephen Dinkins (Sherrie), Mignon Perry (Gene) and Guy Dinkins; five grandchildren, Amy, Tracy, Brandon, Jennifer and Krys; and six great-grandchildren, Lily, Sophie, Tiffany, Brooke, Brynlee and Kylie.
Ginny will be most remembered for her sense of humor and her devoted love of God, family and country, believing that we all have within us the power to make a difference in our life and the lives of our fellow man. Her values, beliefs and passion paved her life journey toward community service on a local, state and national level. She was an active member of the Gainesville Women’s Forum, Gainesville Garden Club, Thomas Center Association, Secretary of the Alachua County Girls Club Endowment Board and served four years on the State Board of Nursing as an appointee of Governor Bob Martinez. She was an influential member of the Alachua County Republican Executive Committee, volunteering in multiple campaigns and elected as Delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1976, 1984, 1988, and 1992. She was a dedicated member of Westside Baptist Church were she taught second grade Sunday school class and was Chairman of the Church Flower Committee.
Ginny was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and siblings and was comforted through her faith that they would all reunite in Gods appointed time.
A private graveside service will be held 10:00 am, Thursday, October 21, 2021 at Highland Memorial Park, Ocala, FL, 1515 NE Third Street, Ocala, FL with Dr. Gary Crawford officiating.
