Virginia “Ginny” Halligan, 64, of Fleming Island and Green Cove Springs, Florida passed away on the 20th of August, 2018. She was born to John and Helen Halligan on January 14, 1954, in Orange Park, Florida. She went to Charles E. Bennett Elementary and graduated from Clay High School with the Class of 1972. After graduation, Ginny began working as a medical assistant. At the time of her death, she was the office manager for Dr. William Namen in his podiatry practice. Over the years, Ginny served as Florida President for the Medical Assistants Association.
Ginny was an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fleming Island. She belonged to the Council of Catholic Women. She has held a number of positions in the organization during her more than twenty years of membership. She has served as President of her affiliation, and she was President of the St. Augustine Deanery. She has served on the Diocesan Board as Recording Secretary as well. Ginny was an active church-goer. Her favorite Mass was 5:30 on Saturday with her sister, niece, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Ginny will always be remembered for her quiet and kind ways. She was a mother-figure for her nieces and nephew as they grew up. She is a grandmother-figure to her great-nieces and great-nephews. She was fond of yardwork. She loved to play with the children. On Sundays, as the family gathered for dinner, Ginny was often seen learning new games from the children as they sat on and around her. Ginny didn’t like to cook dinners, but she was a great baker. She often made treats for family and friends. Many “sweet-tooths” were blessed by her.
Ginny is preceded in death by her parents, John and Helen Halligan, her brother-in-law, James Bazley, and her nephew, Edward Bazley.
She is survived by her sister, Jean Bazley. Her nieces, Mary Abt and Sarah Campbell, their husbands, Andrew Abt and Kevin Campbell. Ginny also leaves behind a small legacy of love in her great-nieces and great-nephews, Sophie Abt, Zoie Abt, Sawyer Abt, Archer Abt, Sean Campbell, and Liam Campbell.
