On Thursday, February 27, Virginia Doris Miles, known to everyone as Doris, went home to heaven to join her husband of 64 years, Hurley Miles. Doris just celebrated her 92 birthday and after a long illness; she passed peacefully surrounded by her family.
Doris was a Clay County native, grew up in Green Cove Springs and married Hurley after WW II. They resided on Highland Avenue for over 64 years, raising their family there. Doris and Hurley both worked at Burlington Hosiery in the 1950’s. Later, Doris became a CNA at Clay Memorial Hospital, where she was respected for her loving care of patients. Doris made many friends throughout the community as a life-long resident.
Doris attended Shiloh Baptist Church for over 70 years. She brought up her family in church, loved the Lord and was a blessing to us. Our family will always remember the special fudge that she made at Christmas. She never played favorites – always carefully making everyone’s fudge gift tin exactly the same so we’d know she loved us all equally.
Mourning her passing are her two daughters – Earline Miles Padgett and son-in-law Tommy and Brenda Diane Hodge and son-in-law Greg. Doris was matriarch to three grandchildren and their families. She dearly loved: Eric Padgett and wife Rachel; Heather Padgett Rivera and husband Rafael; and Mark Hodge and wife Carrie. Doris leaves seven heart-broken Great-Grandchildren and two Great-Great Grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00pm - 8:00pm on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 4 at 11:00 a.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, 1055 County Road 226, Green Cove Springs, FL with Dr. Rick Crews and Dr. Robert Ball officiating. Interment will follow in Shiloh Cemetery. After services, you are welcome to join family for food and fellowship.
