Walter Henry Brown, III

Walter Henry Brown, age 73, passed away on Monday, July 22, 2019 to be with the Lord. He was born in Kannapolis, North Carolina, July 17, 1946 to Walter Henry Brown Jr. (Father) and Estelle Peale Brown (Mother). He later moved to Florida and lived in Orlando where he graduated from Edgewater High School in 1964. He then attended Orlando Junior College and earned an Associate in Arts degree in 1966. He furthered his education by attending Florida State University and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1968. He married Elizabeth Ann Wright in October 4, 1968. He returned to Florida State University and graduated with a Masters degree in Library Science in 1970.

Walter relocated to Jacksonville, Florida where he accepted a job as Branch Manager in the Duval County Public Library System. He served as a Branch Manager at several locations throughout Jacksonville and helped design the Highlands Branch Library located on Dunn Avenue where he served as the first Branch Manager and was well loved by all his employees.  Walter served 30 years with the Duval County Public Library System and prior to retiring he was serving as the Branch Manager at the Webb Wesconnett Library.  Walter and Elizabeth moved to Keystone Heights, Florida and he accepted a job working with the Clay County Public Libraries as a Branch Manager of the Orange Park Branch. He retired in October 2011. Walter was also a Forty Plus year member of the Free and Accepted Masons (Masonic Lodge) and served as Worshipful Master at the Ionic Lodge in 1979. Walter was an active member at Melrose Masonic Lodge # 89.

Walter was also a member of Keystone United Methodist Church. Walter was a Christian and believed in the best of everyone he met or came in contact with. He loved people and he loved his family unconditionally! Walter loved most importantly spending time with his family especially his granddaughters. Walter will always be remembered most as a man who stood up for his beliefs and always stood strong in his faith and love for our lord Jesus Christ. Walter was very compassionate about helping people and ensuring his family members were well cared for! Walter had a Contagious laugh that will surely be missed by all who knew him. Walter absolutely loved spending time with his son Jonathan working on Vintage Pressure Camping Lanterns, Stoves, and fishing in his lake and playing with his granddaughters.

Walter is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Elizabeth Brown; Sons, Jonathan (Krystal) Brown Keystone Heights, Fl, Walter J. Brown Jacksonville, Fl , Sister, Nancy (Dan) LeFevre Winter Park, FL, Sister in law, Martha Brown Rockwell, NC, Nephew, Buddy Brown Rockwell, NC,  Niece, Meredith Hartig Newberry , Fl, Grandniece Violet Hartig, Nephew, Daniel LeFevre, Utah.  He had two grandchildren, Bailey Brown and Abigail.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, July 28, 2019 at 290 SE Palmetto Ave, Keystone Heights, FL 32656, Melrose Masonic Lodge # 89.
