Wickus Viljoen

Wickus Derek Viljoen from Fleming Island Florida passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2019. 

Wickus was 11 years old and the younger of two boys born to Jurgens and Marlise Viljoen on January 17, 2008 in Jacksonville, Florida.

He was a student at Paterson Elementary until 4^th grade and attended 5^th grade at St Johns Classical Academy.  He enjoyed karate and had a black belt in Tae Kwando.  Wickus gave his life to Jesus when he was four years old at the First Baptist Church of Green Cove Springs and really loved the Lord and his friends and teachers at church. 

Wickus was a happy child, loved his family and didn’t hesitate to tell his parents that he loves them numerous times throughout the day.  He seemed to be able to bring the best out in people and most people grew fond of him very soon after they’ve met him.

Wickus loved camping and being with his family on long road trips.  He also loved his dog, Lucky.  He will be remembered for his contagious smile, wit and singing and talking around the house.

Wickus loved people, whether they were little kids or senior citizens.  He truly loved them all. He would easily start a conversation with people he didn’t know, and they all commented on his friendliness and good manners.

Wickus’ courage in his battle with this terrible disease, brain cancer, was both admirable and heart breaking.

Wickus was preceded in death by his one grandfather, Gerrit Viljoen, and is survived by his parents, Jurgens and Marlise, his only brother, Morné, 3 grandparents, Ben and Christa Hayes and Pat Viljoen, uncles, aunts and 6 cousins.

His funeral will be held at First Baptist Church of Green Cove Springs on Thursday, September 26^th at 11:00am and will be laid to rest at Penney Farms Cemetery following the service.
