William Elliott, Jr.

William “Willie” Elliott, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home in Penney Farms, Florida, on January 30th, 2025. Born in Columbia, South Carolina, to William Elliott and Marguerite “Daisy” King Sharpe, Willie grew up with a dedication to family, service, and community that defined his life’s work and relationships. Willie graduated from Christ School in Arden, NC and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, NC where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) fraternity. He was predeceased by his beloved sister, Barnwell Elliott Sackett of Lynchburg, Virginia.

Willie is lovingly remembered by his wife of 46 years, Virginia “Ginny” Crenshaw Elliott, whose partnership was a constant source of joy and strength in his life, and his three children, Barnwell “Barney” Elliott Lane (Edward), William “Will” Elliott III, and Thomas “Tommy” Reynolds Elliott (Lark). Willie cherished his role as a grandfather to six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, instilling in each of them his values of kindness, resilience, and humor.

Throughout his life, Willie served his community in many capacities. He spent two years with the Duval County School System as Chairman of the Advisory Committee, guiding trade school students toward meaningful employment opportunities. He generously volunteered with the Greater Jacksonville Open (GJO) golf tournament, where he took on leadership roles as Chairman the Social Committee and the Transportation Committee. His dedication extended to the Timuquana Country Club, where he served three years on the Board of Governors, and to the Clay County Development Authority, where he was a trusted board member for four years. In recognition of his integrity and commitment, he was named Purveyor of the Year by the Jacksonville Restaurant Association, an honor that celebrated his contributions to the local business community.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Annette and Eric Decker for their compassionate care and support during Willie's final days. Their kindness and dedication brought comfort and peace not only to Willie but to our entire family, and we will forever be grateful for the love and respect you showed.

Willie will always be remembered for his honesty, generosity, unwavering friendships, and sense of humor. He loved his family, his beloved dogs, the mountains of western North Carolina, and life on the St. John’s River. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
