William “Bill” Stanley Emmerich was born on April 25, 1938 in Milwaukee, WI to Howard and Lillian Emmerich. Bill grew up in Havertown, PA, outside Philadelphia and he always considered this to be his hometown. He was a graduate of Haverford Senior High School. In 1961, Bill graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the US Naval Academy. During his 22 years of service, Bill was stationed many places. While in Virginia, he obtained his Master’s in Education before serving in the Vietnam War. He retired as a Commander. One of the many highlights of his career was serving as Aide to George H.W. Bush, when President Bush was Ambassador to the United Nations. Following his career in the Navy, Bill worked in city government in Richmond & Herndon, VA, later in Enfield, NC and finally in Green Cove Springs, FL. where he chose to put down roots after a lifetime of frequent moves. His next role, Director of Administrative Services at FSCJ, is where Bill met Alice. The two married in 2002 and shared many special years together. After working in community and higher education management, Bill returned to his engineering roots and joined Wyle Laboratories where he was until his retirement in 2013. Following his retirement, Bill continued to make significant contributions to the community as a Clay County Court Mediator & Guardian Ad Litem. Bill’s interests were varied, but he most enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and relished his role as “Papa”. He also enjoyed travelling, boating, motorcycle rides, his beloved pets, and trips to the beach. Bill and Alice most especially loved spending time on Jekyll Island. Bill was an active member of Grace Anglican Church in Green Cove Springs and in later years enjoyed participating remotely by watching services streamed right to his living room. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Margaret “Peg” Randall and son, John St. Genus. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Alice Emmerich; his son Michael (Aimee) Emmerich, daughter Jeanne Stratton, stepchildren Daniel (Stefani) Entenza, Melissa (Brandon) Miller, Andrew (Heather) Raines; 8 granddaughters, 4 grandsons; nephew, Mark Randall, niece, Melissa Randall. The family wishes to express their gratitude to his caregivers in his final years, especially his primary caregiver, Tene Dione. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, February 10th at 3pm in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with the Very Reverend Mike McDonald officiating. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors will take place at 11:00am on Wednesday, June 8, 2022.
