William "Gunnar" English

July 12, 1991 — April 10, 2023

On Monday April 10, 2023 William Gunnar English peacefully entered his eternal life with his family at his side. Gunnar was a lifelong resident of Clay County Florida born July 12, 1991 and a 2009 graduate of Middleburg High School. At the age of 4 he began playing soccer at Clay County Soccer Club and played until he was 12. Upon entering Junior High he began playing in the band and continued playing music until he graduated from High School. He enjoyed marching and performing along with making lifelong friends with his fellow musicians. Gunnar loved motorcycles, skateboarding, video games and a wide variety of music. He liked to play practical jokes, cooking up a concoction to eat in the kitchen and a ribeye steak off the grill. He wasn’t a morning person preferring quiet mornings and a cup of coffee. He had a unique since of humor, no filter at all and a very big heart. He enjoyed identifying the stars and planets with his Dad in the calm coolness of the night skies. He worked while in school, later at Serv-Pro and Silverman Fence. Gunnar had begun his “career, not a job” (his words) in July of 2020 at United Parcel Service - as a driver - and loved the challenge of getting the job done and meeting customers and making new friends from all over the area at work. Gunnar was the youngest of 5 children raised in a blended family since he was a toddler. He grew up chasing behind them and missed them terribly when they had moved out. He often said he wished he had been closer in age so they could have done more together. At 13 he got to be a surrogate big brother to his niece when she lived with us for a short time and he loved every minute of helping to take care of her, reading to her and especially playing with her. Gunnar loved shooting hoops with his nephews, showing them soccer tricks and teasing them like any uncle does. Gunnar was also very proud of his Poarch Band (Alabama) Creek Indian Descent (First Generation) heritage and was hoping to make a trip back to Alabama to learn more. Gunnar was a simple man. He struggled at times and had admitted he made choices he later regretted. Gunnar was on the right path, as recently as late March 2023, while in church he accepted Jesus as his savior and to those who loved him, it that may help our broken hearts now, to know that he is in the arms of God. Gunnar will always be our beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew and cousin and forever missed by his family and friends. He is survived by parents Jane and Mikel Roscoe; sisters Erin (Marcus) Karaim and Cassi (Jon) Myrkle and brothers Jason Roscoe and Zach Roscoe. Gunnar has extended family scattered across the country who are grieving the loss of their bother, uncle, nephew and cousin. Gunnar cherished his best friend Todd (Ashley) Thomas and being “Uncle Bro” their children. He was preceded in death by his father William English, his maternal grandparents Jacquelyn and Elbert “Jr” Acosta, paternal grandparents Minnie Ruth and Willie T. English. Gunnar loved all animals, especially dogs, and was exceptionally heartbroken over the recent loss of Sirius Black in January. Now they are together again - beyond the Rainbow Bridge. Family and friends whose lives Gunnar touched are invited to a Celebration of Life at the Broadus-Raines Chapel on Monday April 24th at 3pm with Dr. Tim McDaniel officiating. The family will receive friends in the chapel one hour prior to the service time. In lieu of flowers please donate to your local animal shelter in Gunnar’s name.
