On Thursday, April 7, 2022, David Thomas Foley, age 83, died peacefully surrounded by his wife and dearest friends. David was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving for ten years and as a Radarman Second Class Petty Officer, saw service in the Atlantic. During his service, he received numerous accommodations and awards, including the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon with Bar. He was retired from United Airlines.
David spent his golden years in Penney Farms Retirement Community, where he enjoyed reading, traveling, and playing golf; he served on several committees, including Penney Memorial Church. He was an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was instrumental in bringing a Catholic Mass to our campus. Recently he started a Men’s Group focusing on sharing and prayer. David was happy spending time with friends and family. He treasured the many visits with his son Jeff and his wife Debbie, who gave him love, laughter, and unending support to the end of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Madeline; brother, John Foley of Bryn Mawr, PA; three sons, Jeffrey Michael (Debbie) Foley, William James Cottone and David Thomas Cottone; stepsons, Thomas (Ellen) Vincent of Marshfield, MA and Eoin (Lisa) Vincent of Glouchester, MA; stepdaughter, Noreen Vincent of Raleigh, NC; Jessie Fontana, Zachary Fontana and Shane Peter (Rebekka) Foley; and grandsons, great-grandson, Judah Jasher Foley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Joseph Foley and Anna Ryan Foley; six sisters; and son, Gregory Joseph Foley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fleming Island, FL on Monday, April 25, 2022 at 11:00 am with Fr. Mike Pendergraft as Celebrant, followed by burial in the Church Columbarium.
