Flora M. "Soapy" Givens

Soapy Givens, 75, of Green Cove Springs, Fl passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at her home with her children by her side. She was born to parents Lewis and Mattie Carney on November 29, 1948, in Meridian, Mississippi.

Soapy worked as a waitress for over 50 years at Milligan’s, Corky Bells, Cedar River, and Top of the Reef in Green Cove Springs. She was also a lunch-lady at Charles E. Bennett elementary school for many years.  

Soapy enjoyed working with her flowers outside, watching westerns on TV, spending time with her family, listening to LOUD music, and laughing at her son Mike always picking on her daughter, Shelly.

She will be remembered as the matriarch of the family; the one who taught her kids and grandkids how to love and support each other no matter what, and that “family always comes first.”  

In addition to her parents, Soapy was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Gary W. Givens, her brothers Frank Carney, James Carney & Donald Carney, and her sisters Eva Seibs & Margie Thomas.

Soapy is survived by her brothers Melvin, Robert & Richard Carney, her children Michael Givens (Tabitha) & Michele Sharpe (Jimmy), her grandchildren Brice Honeycutt, Haleigh Gunn, Kacey Renaud, Calvin Givens, Daphne Givens, Margaret Renaud, Collin Givens & Caydence Givens, her great grandchildren: Gage Gunn & Aydan Eddings, and many nieces & nephews.

The family will receive friends for a viewing on Thursday, March 7, 2024 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at Congregational Holiness Church in Green Cove Springs. The funeral service will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024 at 11:00am at the same place with Reverend Tommy Walker officiating. The graveside service will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery.  Food and fellowship will be available afterward at Congregational Holiness Church.

In lieu of flowers, Soapy’s wishes were to have her and Gary’s picture added to their headstone. The family appreciates any donations toward honoring her wishes.
