Gwyneth “Marian” Smith, 90, passed away in Brooksville, FL on April 2, 2024.
Born to Rienza T. Wall and Ida L. Johns Wall on March 14, 1934, in Belmore, FL, Marian was the youngest of 9 children.
Marian spent most of her life in Green Cove Springs, FL where she raised her three children, Joey, Fay, and Lynn. She graduated from Clay High School and was married to Emmett A. Smith. She and Emmett participated in the Elks Club together. She also enjoyed her time as a member of the Red Hat Society and Green Cove Springs Garden Club.
Marian was widely recognized for her expertise in quilting. She was considered a true artist for her craftmanship, innovation and creativity. She would often use life events such as birthdays, graduations or weddings to present a lucky loved one with one of her designs. Marian had other interests including crochet, knitting, and basket weaving. She enjoyed listening to music and learned to play the banjo. She was an avid reader and loved plants and flowers.
Marian was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband Emmett and son John Joseph “Joey” Horton.
She is survived by her daughters Karen Fay Reddick and Marian Lynn Cunningham (David). Her grandchildren include Shellie, Jamin, Jessica, Jarin and Whitney. Her great-grandchildren are Kodie, Campbell, Graham, Gwyneth, Tristan, Ian, Ryland, Winston, Trevor, Owen, Tyler, Easton, Jack, Dagny and Talon.
Marian’s family will receive friends from 10:00 am -11:00 am on Monday, April 8, 2024, in the Broadus-Raines Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am with Chaplain Jeremiah Robinson officiating and burial will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery.
