Jeff found the Lord in the year 2011, prior to being diagnosed with cancer. Jeff served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1978. He will be remembered as a loving husband, brother, son, father, friend, nephew, uncle, a hard worker, and a living testimony of kindness, generosity & the love for the Lord. It’s no wonder that his life had to do with cars, as early on in his life family had given him the nickname “Car.” Jeff was a Certified Auto Technician at Nimnicht Chevrolet before his illness and worked at many Chevrolet dealerships in the Jacksonville area throughout his career. He was known as a mentor for the young men he worked with, teaching them skills along with the importance of honesty and integrity. Jeff was involved with the St. Augustine Youth Services at Christmas, giving a gift for one of the young boys. He was a dirt track race car driver from 1989 – 1995, winning the Jax Raceways 1989 Best Sportsmanship award, and was an avid race car fan of the late Dale Earnhardt. He loved his family and was devoted to his son, Jeff, Jr. He was his sons’ crew chief in go-kart racing after his time racing the dirt tracks. He had a love for traveling and camping as well.
He is preceded in death by his parents Earle L. “Butch” & Betty J. Sweeney and stepson Thomas C. “Corey” Clark.
He is survived by his wife Sharon L. Sweeney, his stepson Kent M. Mitchell, his son Jeffrey A. Sweeney, Jr. (Amanda), his best friend & soulmate Lynette Berlin (Ron), his second mother Ruby Sharpe, his three beautiful sisters Julianne Cartwright (Mark), Bonnie Espinoza (Barry) & Cathy Fisher (Tom), his brother-in-law Jerry Sharpe, his reconnected northern family consisting of Mike, Debbie, Terry, Sandi & their father Leo Putnam, along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, grand-nephews & cousins.
