Yvonne Sowell

Yvonne Sowell, age 87, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2023, in Orange Park, Florida. 

Yvonne was born on April 2, 1936, in Alma, Georgia. In her younger years she was an accomplished seamstress and an avid crafter. For many years she was the office manager for The Bargain House of Fleas in Jacksonville, Florida, and loved her job. She loved animals and throughout her life cared for many animals of all kinds. She was a good cook and at times could whip up a dinner for the whole family with little in the kitchen. She loved family get togethers and had a passion for dance.

Yvonne was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Lewis Sowell, Jr., her son Cecil Wayne Sowell, her father Cecil Cothern, her mother Cleo Cothern, her grandmother, Rushie Latien, and her sister Mary Lee.  

Yvonne is survived by her daughters Patricia Rock (Julian), Donna Kay Gagne, Vicki Jo Gibson (Dennis), her son Jeffery Sowell, her stepson Larry Sowell, and her sister Addie Smith. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

There will be a Celebration of Life in Middleburg, Florida at the Middleburg Civic Center, 2102 Palmetto Street, at 2:00 pm on January 14, 2024. Our mother loved desserts so come join us to remember her and enjoy some light fare and sweet treats the way she would.
